Morning all! Prov 29.25 says “Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the Lord means safety.”
Most of us would confidently state that we care more about God’s opinion than of others, yet our everyday lives don’t necessarily reflect this. Often, much of what we choose to (or not to) do is dictated by how we think others will respond. Moreover, we can spend so much time striving to impress others e.g. colleagues, managers, parents and even friends, that we become overwhelmed as we try to meet what we perceive to be their expectations of us. We subconsciously work harder to please people than to please God, forgetting that the Bible warns against this because it’s so dangerous. Not only does it almost always results in ‘burn out’ (because we can never please everyone), but more importantly, it distracts us from keeping the main thing, the main thing. Trusting God is non-negotiable. Let’s prioritise this over everything else so it’s easier to remember that He more than compensates for our every flaw and failure, relieving us of the unnecessary pressure to live up to everybody else’s standards. God will give us grace!
