Morning all! Prov 1.10-11 says “My child, if sinners entice you, turn your back on them! They may say, “Come and join us. Let’s hide and kill someone! Just for fun, let’s ambush the innocent!”
We often read these verses and (subconsciously) dismiss them because most of us don’t know any killers or plan ambushes ‘just for fun’. Yet, that would be missing the point! Although ‘sinners’ in this context refer to those who proactively make decisions that lead to the downfall of others, we’re all guilty of saying and doing things that negatively affect those that surround us. It’s important that we don’t just learn how to distance ourselves from people who bring out the worst in us; but that we also remember that God can use us to bring out the best in others. It can be so easy to judge others for their wrong actions without taking the time to reflect on and address what we do. It’s important that we surround ourselves with people who showcase the characteristics we admire whilst also nurturing those very same qualities in ourselves. Let’s commit to being a positive example, focusing less on how others can ‘improve’ and more on how we can be the best version of ourselves. God will give us grace!
